Lifeplayer Start and Lifeplayer Plus

With our Lifeplayer range of products, education and information becomes accessible on demand to anyone, anywhere, anytime. In schools with no electricity and few resources, students are able to listen to quality educational material. Teachers improve their skills through on-going training. In women’s listening groups, mothers hear health and nutrition messages. And farmers listen to agricultural updates and advice.

All this is possible by our power independent Lifeplayer, an MP3 player, radio and recorder. Using a microSD card, content is pre-loaded into the Lifeplayer at our factory or in the field, or downloaded from a mobile phone or computer. Important radio programs can be recorded for everyone to hear. Lessons, stories and songs can be listened to again and again. There’s no need for electricity or batteries, as the Lifeplayer is powered by the sun or a hand crank.

Designed in South Africa, the Lifeplayer has received a number of awards for product innovation.

The Lifeplayer is …

A teacher

The Lifeplayer can store an unlimited amount of high quality educational material. This allows listeners to play, pause, forward, rewind and replay as needed. The material can be pre-loaded, downloaded from a mobile phone or computer, or recorded from the radio. Material played on the Lifeplayer can be uploaded onto a mobile phone or computer for sharing.

A radio

The Lifeplayer offers up to five bands – FM, AM and three SW bands – assuring reception, even in the most remote environments. A five metre SW antenna extension cable is also included to improve shortwave reception where it’s needed.

A recording device

Radio broadcasts can be recorded and stored on microSD cards for listening at a later time. Individuals or communities can also record their own content, including lessons, stories, songs and shared experiences.

Energy independent

The Lifeplayer comes with a suite of power options: solar, a hand crank, and external DC input for charging from a wall socket or car battery.  The solar panel includes high temperature rechargeable batteries that add extra storage capacity.

Rugged and tough

The Lifeplayer has been robustly engineered for hot and dusty conditions, with a tough exterior.

Simple to use

With only two knobs and one record button, the Lifeplayer has been designed to be simple and intuitive to use.

Easy to maintain

With its modular design, components are replaceable, and repairs can be made without significant tools or expertise.

Designed for groups

A large internal speaker and amplification ensures that lessons are heard clearly, even in classrooms with up to 60 pupils. For larger groups, a second speaker can be attached to the Lifeplayer.

Customised for you

On start-up, the LCD screen can display your logo and be pre-tuned to a radio station that ensures the intended programming is reaching listeners. Alternatively, the Lifeplayer can be programmed to start with an informative message, a local song or even a sponsor’s jingle.
